Bishop of Hereford speaks up for farmers

The Right Reverend Anthony Priddis, Bishop of Hereford, has emphasised the need for a Groceries Code Adjudicator. In a speech to the House of Lords on 12 May 2011, the Bishop highlighted his concerns that damage was being done to farming livelihoods by inappropriate and at times pernicious practices applied by supermarkets during purchasing. In the same speech, the Bishop pressed the government to consider measures to make it easier for people to come into farming for the first time and help farmers who wish to retire.

FCN Herefordshire is looking to recruit a Coordinator

The newly formed FCN Herefordshire Group is looking to recruit a volunteer Coordinator for its work in the county.

The Coordinator is responsible for helping to recruit and support local volunteers, and coordinate the allocation of case referrals which come in for the county to appropriate volunteers. Expenses are paid including travel, phone and other costs but this is an entirely voluntary role.

A Coordinator will keep in touch with the central office through a regular teleconference and an annual residential gathering which is usually held in October.

Typically, Coordinators are Christians who are connected to farming, either farmers themselves or people who work in close contact with the farming community – some of the 32 Coordinators in the country are also pastors/ministers who have had experience of farming issues.

Full details about the role and interview process for becoming a Coordinator are available from Glyn Evans, the central England Regional Director who can be contacted on 07581 491713 or by email at glyn.fcnse@gmail.com.
