FCN cannot wave a magic wand and solve every problem, but we can share the burden, we can listen and understand and we can try to provide and bring in appropriate help and support. Depression and loss of hope…
An elderly farmer rang the FCN Helpline over a year ago and an FCN volunteer has been ‘walking with’ him and his family since then. They are still working through their situation and are not yet out the other side, but they have moved on a huge amount since that initial call.
The farmer said recently “When I called the Helpline all those months ago all I could see was a black hole – no hope and no way out. I never thought I would find a way through. Now I can see light at the end of the tunnel and I am so grateful for the help I have received from FCN. I know that I am not on my own”.
In this case FCN has been able to bring in a number of different organisations to provide specialist help. The FCN volunteer has provided friendship and support throughout and continues to do so as the family begin to stand on their own two feet again, with a re-gained sense of hope and purpose.
