Royal support for FCN's work in the Foot & Mouth Disease outbreak

FCN’s Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales has made a donation of £100,000 towards the work of the Farming Help charities, and has encouraged other donors to follow his lead. The Duke of Westminster has matched his donation, and a number of food companies have also made donations.

The Prince of Wales said “The re-emergence of Foot & Mouth combined with the impact of the flooding this Summer – and now the cases of Bluetongue – have created a real crisis which will be felt for months to come. I hope that this donation will make a difference for those farmers struggling to cope.”

FCN is extremely grateful to its Patron for his generosity and his hard work in raising support from others. The Prince has a real understanding of the problems affecting farmers and their families and a deep concern for their welfare, which is demonstrated by his on-going interest in the work of FCN and the other Farming Help charities.

FCN is continuing to work hard to provide help and support to the farming community. FCN volunteers are working closely with local churches to support farmers in the areas affected by the most recent cases of Foot and Mouth Disease, and across the UK as many struggle to cope with the consequences of livestock movement restrictions.

The FCN Helpline is available from 7.00am – 11.00pm every day on 0845 367 9990, offering callers support from local FCN groups, other farming support organisations and local churches.

FCN is encountering many people in desperate situations, and is concerned that everyone in the farming community knows that support is available. There are significant hardship problems across the country, and this is a very anxious time for many. The recent cases of Bluetongue in East Anglia are another concern and bring additional restrictions for some.

FCN is working very closely with its Farming Help partner charities Royal Agricultural Benovolent Institution (RABI) and ARC-Addington Fund. FCN volunteers can help farming people in making applications for emergency financial assistance from RABI (domestic grants) and ARC-Addington Fund (animal feed cost grants) where appropriate.

We ask all our friends and supporters of FCN to join us in prayer for all those affected by this outbreak.
